Future Focus Principle

In this video clip, teacher Sarah Watts demonstrates her use of the 6-step Future Focus Principle; an exciting approach to student-led, future focused problem solving. In this example, students look at a scenario, ascertain the problem and explore the various options, then identify their optimal solution to the problem. This technique, which is well suited for use when exploring environmental issues, enables students to develop and practise:

  • Higher level thinking and communication skills
  • Analytical thought
  • Creative thinking
  • Development of criteria questions
  • Choosing, negotiating and justifying best solutions
  • Implementation of practical action plans
